Massages are great right? Well, there’s a way to make them even better. It is extremely important that you keep a few tips in mind before going to get a massage done!
1. Ask, ask ASK!
Massage is a form of healing. And every form of healing requires the person to be as open as possible with the therapist. Massages can make you feel a lot of things emotionally and if you’re unsure of what you’re feeling, don’t be afraid of asking your therapist!
2. Feel and understand your pain.
Massages, especially the ones that aim at releasing tension trapped in muscles, will hurt. So if at any point the pain makes you feel uncomfortable, talk to your massage therapist about it. To make this happen, it is extremely important that you remain aware of your body throughout and feel your trigger points.
3. Let the therapist do their job
You’re going to therapist for a reason. He/she knows both the science and art of massage better than you do. Which is why, you need to be humble, vulnerable and accepting of what they say. Avoid giving too many suggestions to them and let them do their job well!
4. Understand your limits
Massages can hurt but only to make you feel relaxed. So, if a certain technique makes you feel uncomfortable, be open about it and speak up. Don’t take unnecessary pressure on yourself!
5. Trust your massage therapist
Trust your therapist to know and do what’s best for you! You must give in to them in order to sit back and relax completely. It’s okay to ask questions and clear your doubts but don’t go overboard and question every move. This will only lead to a discomforting atmosphere and the massage won’t fulfil its purpose!
